ASCEND is looking for science and engineering students interested in designing spacecraft to make scientific measurements at the edge of space.Įach payload must contain an imaging component interfaced with a tracking device (altitude, latitude/longitude). This program is geared to complement regular classroom learning by offering direct hands-on immersion with the full mission cycle. Onboard cameras obtain images and videos to document the flight and capture images from the edge of space. Payload instrument packages are designed by the team to measure a variety of parameters as a function of altitude. Student teams design and build payloads for launch on high-altitude weather balloons that can reach altitudes in excess of 100,000 feet.
